Wine

October 4, 2012

I consider myself a little bit of a barbarian when it comes to wine.  Why a barbarian you ask??  My tastes don’t seem to follow the “experts” when it comes to most of what “they” consider the best in the world.

To begin with I have a lousy sense of smell.  This forces me (ya it’s tough) to drink wines that have a huge nose and generally big flavors.  I’m just not a subtle kind of guy I guess.  I need wine to hit me upside the head like a 2X4 (wood segue) for me to fully enjoy it.  I have an open mind if anyone would like to alter my opinion…I’m just not spending any more money on wines “I’m supposed to love” until I find some of them that I actually do.  So all you French and Italian wine “experts” out there, feel free to ship me wine and I will give you the unadulterated Barbarian Wine Review.

My current wine cellar contains 98% red wine…mostly Shiraz/Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  I have been experimenting, of late with Malbec and some white wine.  My current cellar contains 95% Australian wines…why you ask?  Simply value for the dollar!!  Aussie wines have made huge headway into the world of wines and in my opinion other countries have a tough time competing based on price for quality.

Here’s a couple pictures of my wine cellar…more detail to follow…
